The ceramic pieces have been glazed with a white opaque and oxides. These demonstrate the possibilities in developing the forms into larger abstract vessels. Glazing the individual sections also provide insight into the understanding and appreciation of the folds and textures. As each piece loses its identity when taken out of context and structure. A new concept of art form is made. Each piece is aesthetically pleasing with numerous outcomes.
The clay model, based on the small ceramic piece demonstrates the abstraction of the original idea. As the clay went leather hard it gave me the chance to manipulate the body/ surface of the clay. I found working at this stage very pleasing. It goes with saying the structure of the form contradicts some of the rules of making, as there is top heavy sections on weak folds. The leather-hardness of the clay also allowed me to create a texture I so desired. Similar to the original sculpture.
I seem to think these vessels/forms may best suit high fired temperatures allowing the clay to speak for itself, rather than use glaze.
The next objective is to make an elongated structure, as large as the kilns will allow?
